Introduction

Celebration of National Mathematics Day (NMD) is a nation wide programme initiated by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, as a mark of respect to the great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujam.

The main aim of the Programme is to foster the spirit of Science among Student Community. The celebrations are also intended to communicate the abilities of great Indian scientists and mathematicians and their immeasurable contributions in solving crucial problems using mathematics.

National Mathematics Day is observed in India on December 22 every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, one of the greatest mathematicians in the world. This day was first observed in 2012, after the Indian government declared it as a national event.

On National Mathematics Day, various activities such as lectures, seminars, workshops, and competitions are organized by educational institutions, government agencies, and non-profit organizations across the country to popularize mathematics among students and general public. This day is a great opportunity to celebrate the beauty and power of mathematics and encourage more people to take an interest in this fascinating subject.
