Introduction

Regional Science Centre, Warangal is the focal point of TSCOST for various Science Communication / Popularization processes.

Regional Science Centre, Warngal is located on a hillock having an aerial extent of 15 acres on Hunter Road, Opp. Vana Vignana Kendram, Hanankonda at a central location of three towns i.e. Warangal, Khazipet and Hanamkonda. The operational area of the centre is 10 districts of Telangana State.

The project is being implemented under the administrative framework of Telangana State Council of Science & Technology (TSCOST) and executed by Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA) with M/s. Aakar Architects, Hyderabad as the Architectural Consultant.

Buildings with unique architectural designs, approach road, educative and exciting scientific exhibits, non-conventional energy systems, specially organized greenery, recreation and centralized air conditioning facilities form part of the Regional Science Centre, Warangal initially. Plinth area of the G +3 structure is 15,000 s.ft. featuring green building concepts.

Objectives of RSC are :
  • Promoting scientific temper and thinking by encouraging curiosity and questioning process among the students and various sections of public.
  • To develop inquisitiveness towards Science and Technology in the minds of Students, Teachers, Academicians and General Public.
  • To provide opportunity to Students, Teachers and Academicians to interact with Experts and Scientists on various topics of Science & Technology and also visits to the R&D institutions.
  • To encourage, motivate and inspire Students, Teachers and Academicians to take Science to the nooks and corners of the Society.
  • To demonstrate the effectiveness of Science Communication Process.
Scientific Exhibits :

Regional Science Centre, Warangal portrays state-of-the-art features on the best science communication mechanisms with a view to develop curiosity and inquisitiveness towards science and technology in the minds of students, teachers, academicians and general public.

Scientific Exhibits drawn from National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Govt. of India, Kolkata are the major attractions of Regional Science Centre depicting the scientific principles for the benefit of the students and teaching community.

The Centre has a range of Galleries with 69 interactive and exciting indoor and outdoor exhibits on Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences and on Biodiversity, Climate Change and other contemporary important science topics.

Edu-Sat facility :

Vigyan Prasar, Dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi installed one Satellite Interactive Terminal (SIT) of Edu-SAT, at RSC, Warangal, which provides two-way audio-visual interaction of scientists, academicians, and subject experts with students, academicians, and a wide range of target groups on various topics of science and technology. Several theme based programs on rural development, energy conservation, environment and biodiversity protection, science popularization shall be organized periodically.
